How to recover greenhouse gases from the air
Clean Air Mission
How do you remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and bind them so that they can no longer harm the climate? That is the question that drives Max Zeller from Liechtenstein and his company Carbon Removal Partners. As investors, they finance a wide variety of start-ups whose ideas for recovering greenhouse gases could one day make a decisive contribution to achieving climate goals. The start-ups pursue different approaches. Reforestation, for example, is the most natural way to bind greenhouse gases. But plant carbon, which can store CO2 on arable land, can also play a role in the fight against climate change. There is also potential in various approaches to changing the oceans so that they can absorb more greenhouse gases, or the direct air capture method, which can be used to suck CO2 directly out of the air. What all these approaches have in common is that they are scalable. This means that with sufficient resources, a decisive part of the greenhouse gases can be recovered from the atmosphere. Even if this is still pie in the sky, all these ideas nevertheless give hope that the fight against climate change can still be won in the coming decades.
