From waste to energy
As the leading waste disposal, recycling and energy company in the region, AVAG Umwelt AG ensures that today's waste is turned into tomorrow's sustainable energy. With a team of around 150 specialists and a dense network of partners, AVAG offers reliable waste disposal services in over 130 municipalities, including Gstaad.
AVAG's modern facilities enable the professional recycling of 340,000 tonnes of waste per year (2022). Around 360 tonnes of waste are thermally recycled every day at the waste recycling plant in Thun. "We generate electricity, steam and district heating from the waste that we incinerate here," explains Sandro Jenzer, Head of Maintenance. Thanks to highly efficient filter systems, up to 99% of all dust particles are removed from the exhaust gases.
Efficient recycling management
AVAG's efforts paid off in 2022 with an impressive production volume of 320 million kWh of sustainable energy. This commitment is an important contribution to the energy transition and protecting the environment in the region.
But AVAG is already thinking one step ahead: "I see the biggest challenge in waste recycling as preventing waste from being produced in the first place," says Jenzer. With innovative solutions and partnership-based relationships such as with Impact Gstaad, AVAG is consistently driving forward the closing of material cycles. The values of sustainability that Impact Gstaad represents are also reflected in AVAG's work. Both organisations see themselves as active shapers of change towards greater environmental awareness and pursue a measurable, positive influence in the region with local projects.
